The Lance Brown Group

A concert by the Lance Brown Group is a lively mix of jazzy blues, bluesy jazz, country flavored jump tunes and originals influenced by Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, Randy Newman and Bruce Cockburn. Lance covers life from the tragic to the absurd. Entertaining yet thought provoking - Lance, Jonathan, Dan and Alpha have played together for years and it shows. .

For festive ambiance, the group provides a lively mix of Hot Jazz, Swing and Jump Tunes that is the perfect compliment to corporate events, private parties, dances, family functions or any festive occasion.

Lance Brown (guitar and vocals) has 25 years of experience as an actor, musician and entertainer. His nationally recognized one-man show “A Tribute to Will Rogers” has received rave reviews throughout the country. He headed up the band during its 2 ½ years at Navy Pier. As the front man, Lance brings his special brand of music, scat singing and humor to the mix.

Jonathan DeSouza (Violin/Mandolin) hails from Canada. Is currently a PHD candidate in music theory at the University of Chicago. Jonathan plays everything from country to classical to jazz.

Dan Lopata (bass and vocals) has played the Chicago music scene for years. His diverse experience and innovative approach gives a solid foundation to the wide variety of genres the band plays.

Alpha Stewart ( drums, percussion and vocals) Alpha has been affiliated with the other band members for well over a decade. He has been in high demand as a studio musician, playing and recording with musicians like Tricia Alexander, Kat Eggleston, Switchback, Wilding, Small Potatoes, Bill Camplin and Fish and the Blue Fins. He was the house drummer for the Tuesday night open mike sessions at the Gallery Cabaret for fifteen years.

Mike Levin (clarinet, flute, tenor saxophone and soprano saxophone) is one of Chicago’s top jobbing and studio musicians. His concert and recording work has received high praise from NPR, The Chicago Tribune, The Intermezzo, Media Muse, and many others.

Doug Lofstrom (bass and vocals) is a professor of music at Columbia College in Chicago. He is a classical composer who has had his compositions played and recorded by numerous city and community orchestras.
